Emmy Rossum, who became a first-time mother with the arrival of her daughter Samantha in late May, is offering up a new and playful meaning to the Labor Day holiday.
On Sunday, the day before Labor Day in the United States, the Shameless star took to Instagram and shared a series of snaps taken during the final moments of her pregnancy leading up until she went in labor; hence the word-play with Labor Day.
‘In honor of labor day, a pic of all the vessels in my face I broke pushing in labor,’ she wrote alongside a close-up photo of her face, which is the first of five images she posted.
The latest: Emmy Rossum, 34, used a little word-play and shared a series of snaps taken just before she went into labor in honor of the Labor Day holiday. The Shameless star first shared a photo showing the vessels she had broke while pushing during labor with her daughter Samantha in May
The storytelling continued with a second snap showing the 34-year-old actress seemingly trying to get comfortable while watching her beloved New York Knicks play against the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
‘If you know me, you know I love the Knicks… So of course I early labored over a ball during one of the big games,’ she explained.
The photo was taken during game one of the series on May 23, which was one day before she gave birth to Samantha.

‘Lots of time leading up to labor like this…’ she revealed in the third photo, which shows her laying down on the couch, looking straight into the camera, in the TV room where the previous image was taken.
She followed that up with a mirror selfie taken on the very same day, dressed in white shorts and a blue jean jacket over a white t-shirt that hugged her baby bump.
‘Earlier in the day I had motivated to go out and take down a bucket of chicken wings,’ she shared in a caption before confessing, ‘I’ve never had a chicken wing in my life so I figured I was going into labor.’

Cravings: Rossum confessed she ate entire bucket of chicken wings in the moments before going into labor, which is a food she had never eaten before in her life
And if an entire bucket of chicken wings wasn’t enough, Rossum admitted to a few more food cravings that she had to curb before she went into labor and gave birth to Samantha.
‘Then ordered a sandwich. Then Pad Thai. Then baby. Happy Labor Day,’ she wrote in the final excerpt of her Labor Day storytelling.
Rossum, who’s best known for her role as Fiona Gallagher in the Showtime hit series Shameless, shares her baby girl with husband Sam Esmail, who’s a writer and director.
The couple were married in May 2017 after dating for about four years.
They opted to keep the pregnancy a secret from the media, but would come clean and announce their daughter’s birth one day after she made her arrival on Planet Earth.

Labor Day is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on the first Monday in September to honor and recognize the American labor movement, and the works and contributions of laborers.
Oregon was the first state to make it an official public holiday in 1887. The popularity of the event spread across the country, and by the time it became an official federal holiday was signed into law by President Grover Cleveland in 1894, thirty states had officially celebrated Labor Day.
The federal law, however, only made it a holiday for federal workers. As late as the 1930s, unions were encouraging workers to strike to make sure they got the day off.
