Extra is on the hunt for a new New York correspondent to kick off season 28 on Monday

Extra is returning for its 28th season on Monday and anchor Jenn Lahmers chatted exclusively with DailyMailTV host Thomas Roberts about its star-studded lineup of guests as the show begins a worldwide search for a new New York-based correspondent.

After previous Extra correspondent ‘New York Nate’ – formally Nate Burleson – ‘dropped the mic’ and left to co-host CBS This Morning alongside Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil, the show is looking for someone to pick it up.

‘These are big shoes to fill,’ Lahmers said. Burleson, who became a correspondent on the show in 2019 and also served as an NFL co-host on Good Morning Football and a studio analyst for the CBS Sports pre-game show The NFL Today.

‘We’re looking at everybody from social media influencers… we’re looking at sports stars (and) reporters,’ the 36-year-old added.

Extra’s ‘searching for a moment maker who digs for the real story behind the headlines’.

As far as season 28 goes, Lahmer’s promised a ‘star-packed month ahead including interviews with Doja Cat and Dr Fauchi’.

In previews of the upcoming exclusives Lahmer’s fellow correspondent and The Bachelor franchise veteran Rachel Lindsay asks Dr Fauchi to debunk myths around the virus and the vaccines ‘once and for all, like fertility, for example’.

‘There is no evidence whatsoever – zero – that the vaccine diminishes fertility at all and we have indications of tens and tens of thousands of women who have gotten pregnant after vaccination’ Dr Fauchi says in the preview.

In clips from an in-person interview with Doja Cat, fans are left guessing.

‘Will you be performing?’ Lindsay asks, to which Doja Cat replies ‘yes’ with a laugh.

‘I’ve always worn skin-tight, two sizes smaller than what I should be wearing and, you know, everything’s out, all the time. But this time I want to be really comfortable,’ the star said in response to Lindsay’s question about what she’ll be wearing to this mysterious performance.

These aren’t the only exclusive details Lahmers has dished to DailyMailTV’s Thomas Roberts. When the former attorney accepted the gig with Extra ahead of season 27 she said: ‘I am thrilled to be working with Extra. There is so much going on in the world and it’s hard to find the light and to celebrate when you’re seeing so much despair.’
