‘Extra sparkle and bling’: Zara Tindall’s ‘modern’ ring from Mike could be worth £200,000

Zara and Mike married in 2011 at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh where they were joined by members of the Royal Family. Although not a working royal, Zara often shows off her glamorous engagement ring she received when Mike got down on one knee.

The couple became engaged in 2010 at their townhouse in Cheltenham and were married a year after.

On their wedding day, Zara wore an ivory silk dress with a Duchess satin trim, a chevron pleated corseted bodice and a fine tulle veil.

It was fashioned by designer Steward Parvin, who has been designing clothes for Queen Elizabeth II since 2007.

Zara added the Meander tiara on her wedding day, a Greek key-patterned bandeau from Princess Anne’s collection that once belonged to Prince Philip’s mother.

Since marriage, the couple have had three children, Mia, who is seven, Lena, who is three and Lucas, who is five months old.

When Mike proposed to Zara in 2010, he presented her with a beautiful diamond ring.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Managing Director of jeweller William May, Nick Withington, provided an insight into the stunning ring.

He said: “Zara’s diamond ring is a stunning example of a ‘modern’ diamond engagement ring. The ‘original’ diamond engagement ring style being a single diamond set in a band of gold.

“This example has the added benefit of diamonds set in the shoulders for extra sparkle and ‘bling’ and lets the design carry on beyond the central diamond.

“The look of these ring designs are also enhanced when set in a white metal such as white gold or platinum.

“Zara’s ring features a large central diamond of up to 2.00ct and up to 0.50ct of diamonds in the shoulders.

“Whilst a similar ring to Zara’s can be purchased for up to £100k, add to that a respectable jewellery designer and the fact that Zara’s engagement ring is now an official Royal piece, the value can increase by at least double!

“Whilst most couples may not be able to afford such a large diamond to set their engagement ring off, by adding a halo of diamonds to a smaller central diamond will definitely give that ‘royal’ look for less.

“Halo rings are very popular as an alternative to the traditional single stone diamond ring.

“The addition of extra diamonds such as a halo of diamonds around the centre diamond gives the illusion of a larger diamond and offers extra sparkle.”

Kate Middleton also has a stunning engagement ring from William, which previously belonged to Princess Diana.

In fact, it is one of the most recognised engagement rings in the world, having been replicated by several jewellers since Princess Diana was given it by Prince Charles.

Kate Earlam-Charnley, Design Director at Taylor&Heart said: “The royals have always led the way in terms of jewellery, especially engagement ring design.

“Kate Middleton – if she’s wearing it, everyone wants it! The Duchess of Cambridge wears Diana’s engagement ring as a sweet way to ensure Diana is with them at all times.”

Experts have valued the Duchess’ engagement ring at around £400,000 but due to the history it holds, could sell for a lot more.
