Chelsea’s remain unlikely to add any free agents to their squad but there are still some intriguing options on the table, should they wish to do so. The Blues are not the kind of club to explore such sporadic openings with director Marina Granovskaia now considered among the best negotiators in the game.
The European champions are one of the smartest teams in Europe when it comes to recruiting and shifting players so adding more potential deadwood to their squad remains almost off the table.
Nonetheless, there are several notable free agents currently looking for new clubs and hypothetically, they could plug small gaps in Chelsea’s squad.
The first of which is former Tottenham full-back Serge Aurier, who has recently been released by the club following the mutual termination of his contract.
Aurier struggled to find a new club this summer despite interest from Watford, Real Betis and others.

Chelsea wanted Jules Kounde but will have to wait until at least January to get him.
Trevoh Chalobah will be handed more minutes but if Chelsea need some extra depth, there are two notable centre-backs available for nothing.
David Luiz won the Premier League and Champions League at Chelsea and while he maybe past his best having struggled at Arsenal, he could certainly do a temporary job.
Luiz is vastly experienced and now in the final stages of his career but as a short-term option, he could plug a gap.
Nicolas Nkoulou is also up for grabs following his departure from Torino and he is a player England clubs have looked at in the past.
Once again, he wouldn’t even be expected to play but Nkoulou could help keep things competitive while filling in during the early rounds of the cup competitions.
Finally, another real wildcard option but Fernando Llorente is up for grabs after leaving Udinese.
With Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham now gone, Chelsea need some options in reserve in case they are chasing a game and in need of a goal.
Llorente’s aerial prowess is still handy, particularly from the bench with 10 minutes to go.
The Spaniard has immense experience across the continent and has already shown his quality in the Premier League with Swansea and Tottenham.
He could be a smart acquisition as a super sub for Thomas Tuchel..
