However, the doctor explained that experts have been questioning this as there are various factors at play when it comes to oesophageal cancer.
She added: “In the Western world, the most common cancer found in the oesophagus is adenocarcinoma, which has not been linked to hot temperatures.
“Squamous cell carcinoma, a less common type of oesophageal cancer, may be linked to hot drinks, and this type of cancer is far more common in China, Asia, South America and Africa.”
Furthermore, the research that tied hot drinks to a higher cancer risk was merely observational and couldn’t prove causation.
