Farha Bushra, 20, was living in the property when she called her father at work to complain there were not enough provisions in the kitchen. She demanded that he go shopping, but he insisted she would have to buy her own food.

In a fit of anger, Bushra threatened to start a fire in the bedroom and, within minutes, she phoned him back to say the blaze was “out of control”.

Fire crews put out the blaze in Willingham, Cambridgeshire, but not before it had spread to other areas of the property and caused significant damage.

Bushra admitted starting the fire by burning tissue inside a cardboard box on April 28, reports Cambridgeshire Live.

She was quickly arrested after confessing to firefighters.

On Thursday, a judge gave the woman an 18-month community order and ordered her to complete 40 days of rehabilitation activity and pay a £1,000 fine.

Cambridge Crown Court was told the defendant was interviewed by police in the days after the blaze and accepted full responsibility.

Bushra, now living in Handsworth, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to the charge of arson.

PC Antony Piccinelli, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: “Bushra’s behaviour that day was completely inexplicable.

“Only she will know why she thought setting fire to her father’s bedroom was a good idea or an acceptable reaction to an argument over food shopping.”
