Gary Neville insists he will not be watching Cristiano Ronaldo's second Man Utd debut

Cristiano Ronaldo is set for his second Manchester United debut today when Newcastle United visit Old Trafford. The Portugal international returned to the club earlier this summer after12 years away.

Ronaldo arrived back in Manchester amid enormous fanfare after re-signing for United from Juventus last month.

The forward will go straight into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s matchday squad as the Red Devils look to build on their unbeaten start to their Premier League campaign.

But one man who won’t be at Old Trafford to witness Ronaldo’s homecoming is former United right-back Gary Neville.

Neville is part of the group of former Man Utd players who own League Two side Salford City and the former England international admits he will instead be at the Peninsula Stadium watching the Ammies.

“Manchester United are playing Newcastle at 3 o’clock and Salford are playing Bradford,” Neville told SportBible.

“I think he’s still one of the best players in the world,” Rooney said earlier this week.

“I think United are finally ready to go and challenge for the title – and I really feel they have to this year.

“[Ronaldo’s] going to be a big player. I think he’ll have very big moments in the season and I’m sure he’ll score a lot of goals.

“I follow Manchester United. I want them to do well and I think it’s great for them that they’ve brought Cristiano back.”
