Green Goblin and Electro debut in trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home as MJ scolds Doctor Strange

    Green Goblin and Electro returned as multiverse villains in a trailer released Tuesday for the Sony/Marvel sequel Spider-Man: No Way Home starring Tom Holland as the web-slinger and his real life girlfriend Zendaya as MJ.

    The new three-minute trailer showed Willem Dafoe, 66, reprising his role as Green Goblin from the Sam Raimi trilogy and Jamie Foxx, 53, back as Electro from the The Amazing Spider-Man 2 directed by Marc Webb.

    Zendaya, 25, provided the comic relief in the preview as her MJ character at one point scolded Doctor Strange, played by Benedict Cumberbatch, 45.

    The trailer opened with Peter Parker, played by 25-year-old Tom, on the phone with his love interest MJ.

    ‘Ever since I got bit by that spider I’ve only had one week when my life has felt normal,’ Peter told MJ. ‘That’s when you found out’.

    Doctor Strange and Peter were then shown in the aftermath of a worldwide amnesia spell gone wrong.

    ‘When you botched that spell that you wanted everyone to forget that Peter Parker was Spider-Man,’ Doctor Strange ominously told Peter.

    A bouncing green bomb was then shown on a freeway as the Green Goblin’s cackle could be heard followed by his entrance on a flying glider.

    Doctor Octopus, who was previously shown in a trailer, arrived next and chased down Spider-Man on a roadway.

    ‘Hello, Peter,’ said Doc Ock, played by Alfred Molina, 68, echoing his line from 2004’s Spider-Man 2.

    Doc Ock while battling Spidey had him trapped but relented as he said, ‘You’re not Peter Parker’.

    The supervillain in his 2004 film fought a Spider-Man played by Tobey Maguire, 46.

    Neither Tobey, who starred in the original trilogy, nor Andrew Garfield, 38, who starred in 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, were shown in the new trailer though it has been widely rumored they will appear in the film.

    The new trailer showed Doctor Octopus after their fight later approaching Peter, MJ and their friend Ned Leeds, played by Jacob Batalon, 25.

    ‘Doctor Otto Octavius,’ he replied causing MJ, Peter and Ned to laugh.

    Doctor Strange was then heard telling Peter, MJ and Ned, ‘There are others out there. We need to send them back. So, Scooby-Doo this crap!’

    Doc Ock warned Peter that he was ‘flying out into the darkness to fight ghosts’ and Doctor Strange explained his foes ‘all died fighting Spider-Man’.

    Peter tried to take matters into his own hands by Doctor Strange stopped him. 

    The trailer then showed Peter facing off against Electro, Sandman and The Lizard.

    ‘You’re not gonna take this away from me,’ Electro said as Green Goblin tried to get into his head.

    This is all my fault, I can’t save everyone,’ Peter told MJ.

    MJ while on top of Statue Of Liberty scaffolding with Ned then fell off and Spidey jumped after her.

    Their hands were shown nearly touching as she plummeted.

    Spidey in the final scene caught up with Doctor Strange and asked what was happening as the night sky turned purple.

    ‘They’re starting to come through and I can’t stop them,’ Doctor Strange said.

    Spider-Man: No Way Home will be in theaters on December 17.
