H.E.R. and Chris Stapleton looked primed to give a show-stopping performance at the upcoming 2021 CMT Music Awards when they joined forces a day early for rehearsals.

The 23-year-old songstress and the 43-year-old country music star posed for photographs and ran through their duet for the show in the country music stronghold of Nashville, Tennessee.

Their upcoming performance will mark the first time H.E.R. has performed at a country music award ceremony.

Both artists opted for casual outfits for their rehearsal, though they might switch into something flashier for the main show.

The singer–songwriter born Gabriella Wilson had on a white top diagonal white frills running across her torso.

She added a touch of grunge rock style with heavily ripped acid wash jeans that hung loosely on her.

The style icon had her raven locks puled back in a long ponytail that reached all the way down to her knees, and a characteristic pair of oversize black glasses.

Chris paid tribute to his superfan Kendall Jenner by wearing a black-and-white trucker for her controversial tequila label 818.

He rocked double denim with a navy jacket over a black graphic T-shirt and matching jeans.

The heavily bearded singer contrasted guitars with his duet partner. He appeared to be picking on a black Gibson semi-hollowbody guitar, while H.E.R. shredded on an icy blue Fender Stratocaster.

The two musicians don’t appear to have previously released an duets, so viewers will have to wait until Wednesday night to find out what they’ll be singing.

Earlier in the day, H.E.R. shared a black-and-white photo of the two rehearsing together.

‘One of the most kind and most INCREDIBLE voices on this planet @chrisstapleton!’ she gushed before urging her fans to tune in.

Chris shared a variation on the photo to his own Instagram account and had nothing but glowing praise for his duet partner.

‘H.E.R. is without a doubt one of the greatest singer/ songwriter/ guitar players on the planet earth. Fact,’ he captioned the photo.

Even Chris’ wife Morgane Stapleton couldn’t wait for the two to share the stage.

‘Died & gone to heaven listening to these actual real life angels,’ she shared.

The 2021 CMT Music Awards will be held in its longtime home in Nashville, with Kane Brown returning to co-host after helping to helm last year’s ceremony.

He’ll be joined this time around by singer Kelsea Ballerini, who’s making her debut hosting the country music show.

‘Kelsea and Kane are two of the brightest, most sought-after stars in country music today and we’re thrilled to welcome them both as hosts of the 2021 CMT Music Awards,’ the producers of the CMT Music Awards shared in a statement in May. ‘This dynamic duo reflects the show’s revitalized energy as live music returns to center stage in a night filled with incredible outdoor performances, cross-genre collaborations and a few surprises!’

Both artists are nominated for three awards each this year, so they may have to pause their hosting duties to pick up their trophies.

In a statement released after he was announced as one of the hosts, Brown recalled the ‘amazing feeling’ he felt after winning his first country music award at the CMTs.

‘The CMT Music Awards are special to me — it’s the first industry award I won and getting on that stage was an amazing feeling,’ he said. ‘I love that the fans get to have their voices heard as we celebrate the best in country music.’

The co-hosts will both be performing during the ceremony alongside performances from country superstars Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert.

Last year’s ceremony had to be moved back from its scheduled June date to October of 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, though Wednesday night’s show will have more of sense of normalcy as Covid-19 cases continued to decrease and vaccination rates rise across the US.

In addition to the standard array of country stars, the CMT Music Awards will be stocked with artists not usually associated with country music.

John Legend scored a Video of the Year nomination for his duet Hallelujah with Carrie Underwood, while pop rocker Pink earned a nomination for Collaborative Video of the Year for One Too Many, a duet with Keith Urban.

Maren Morris and Miranda Lambert lead the evening’s nominees with four nods each.

In addition to the two co-hosts, Mickey Guyton and Little Big Town are close behind with three nominations each. It’s particularly impressive for Guyton, as this is the first year she has been nominated at the CMT Music Awards.

The ceremony will have plenty of star power on stage as the Avengers star Anthony Mackie drops by to present, while Freaks And Geeks actress Busy Philipps will also be on hand.

The show airs Wednesday, June 9 at 8 p.m. EST and will be available to viewers on CMT, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network, TV Land and CMT Australia, though viewers looking for a free viewing option online are out of luck.
