    Prince Philip: Expert reveals his ‘secret to a happy marriage’

    The Queen may privately mark the centenary of her late beloved husband tomorrow, royal author Ian Lloyd said. Discussing how important service and faith are to Her Majesty, Mr Lloyd said the Queen may pay tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh by attending a private service. 

    The author of ‘The Duke: 100 Chapters in the Life of Prince Philip’ told Express.co.uk: “The Queen is sustained by her Christian faith.

    “I think something will happen on Thursday, I could imagine the Queen going to a private service in the private chapel at Windsor Castle.”

    The author added the Queen usually mark another poignant anniversary in her life by attending a private service – the death of King George VI and her accession to the throne.

    He said: “She always goes to private services for her father’s death anniversary, which is on February 6.”

    While the Queen has swiftly resumed her royal duties following the passing of Prince Philip, she will surely still suffering her loss after a 73-year-long marriage.

    Speaking about her strong sense of duty and carry on attitude, shared with the Duke of Edinburgh, Mr Lloyd said: “At the moment, the Queen must be hurting like mad for Prince Philip.

    “But her attitude is very much to move forward, to think about the future of both the monarchy and her family.”

    Prince Philip died during the morning of April 9 at Windsor Castle.

    His death was followed by a 15-day long period of mourning, during which working members of the Royal Family are normally expected not to work and dress black.

    While the Queen was not seen in public until the following week, when she attended the funeral, she did not stop working entirely.

    Four days after the death of the Duke, the Queen attended a retirement ceremony for the former Lord Chamberlain Earl Peel, the most senior officer role in the royal household, and welcomed to the post Andrew David Parker.

    She also issued a statement of support to Commonwealth member state St. Vincent and the Grenadines, which experienced a series of volcanic eruptions.

    On April 17, the Queen led by example and sat alone at St George’s Chapel to abide by the Government’s regulation on coronavirus in place at the time, which stated only members of the same bubble or household could ditch social distancing rules.

    The Queen officially returned to work 10 days after the funeral, when she held audiences via video link with the Ambassador from the Republic of Latvia and the Ambassador from the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire.

    During the first five years of their marriage, the Duke of Edinburgh was able to continue his career in the Navy while also accompanying the then-Princess to tours and visits.

    However, upon the death of King George VI in February 1952, the Duke left the Navy to devote his time completely to serve the Crown and support the new Queen.

    Between the Queen’s accession to the throne and August 2017 when he retired from public duties, Prince Philip carried out more than 20,000 solo engagements.

    The Queen publicly acknowledged the important role of the Duke in her private and public life while marking their golden wedding anniversary.

    She said: “All too often, I fear, Prince Philip has had to listen to me speaking.

    “Frequently we have discussed my intended speech beforehand and, as you will imagine, his views have been expressed in a forthright manner.

    “He is someone who doesn’t take easily to compliments but he has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years, and I, and his whole family, and this and many other countries, owe him a debt greater than he would ever claim, or we shall ever know.”
