Prince William is second in the line of succession to the British throne, after his father Prince Charles. This means one day the Duke of Cambridge will ascend the throne and his wife, Kate, Will become Queen. The couple have been preparing for their new role and a royal expert has said the Cambridge Family will be “the best thing” for the monarchy.

Kent Gavin, an eminent photo-journalist who worked with Princess Diana on several occasions, has said Kate and William’s recent approach to royal life will help the monarchy thrive in the coming years.

He also said their three children, Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, will also help drive the Royal Family forward.

Mr Gavin told Insider: “Kate and William are totally different and operate in a totally different way.

    “They’re great.”

He told the magazine he thinks the Cambridge’s strike the perfect balance between modernity and adherence to royal traditions.

As a result, he thinks the family will ensure the monarchy’s longevity.

When discussing the couple, Mr Kent said: “It’s the best thing the royal family could have

He added, the monarchy “is in good hands with those two, and the little ones as well”.

Prior to the change in law, Louis would have overtaken his older sister in the line of succession.

Other female royals, such as Mia and Lena Tindall, aged seven and three respectively, also benefited from the law change.

As when their younger brother Lucas was born in March, the two girls retained their places in the line of succession.

But as the amendment to the Succession Act only affected those born after October 2011, Princess Anne’s lineage remains unchanged.

The Princess Royal, aged 71, is currently 16th in line to the throne, significantly behind her younger brothers, Prince Andrew, 61, and Prince Edward, 57.

The Duke of York is ninth in line to the throne while the Earl of Wessex is thirteenth.
