KIIS FM radio presenter Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has revealed the moment she tried to help a depressed Kyle Sandilands, only to have her attempts rebuffed.

The mother of one, 46, recalled the day her 49-year-old co-host ‘ignored’ her knocks, despite Kyle’s assistant confirming he was indeed home.

Discussing her fears for her colleague on air this week, she told Kyle and fellow KIIS star Will McMahon: ‘I got to the point where I’m like, “I can’t just not do anything.”‘

The reveal came after McMahon revealed how his drive-time co-host Woody Whitelaw’s support had helped him through his own bouts of depression.

Kyle then joked that Jackie wouldn’t do the same for him, before she quickly refuted the claim.

‘What Kyle forgets is that when he was going through a period [when he was] not quite right, I tried to call him so many times,’ said The Masked Singer judge.

Explaining that Kyle was at one point frequently ‘off sick’ in the middle of last year, she said she ‘got to the point where I’m like, “I can’t just not do anything.”‘

‘So I went round to his house,’ continued Jackie, who has worked with Kyle since the year 2000. ‘But he ignored me.’

Kyle then interjected with his trademark sense of humour: ‘I think you will find I was having a chronic masturbation session when you were dinging on the doorbell, and I was nowhere near finished.’

‘Whatever, well I was there for you,’ Jackie replied, before Kyle thanked her.

Kyle confirmed during the segment that he did indeed battle depression last year.

‘I was feeling sad maybe six months ago,’ he said. ‘I should be happy… I’ve got a good job, everything’s fine… but there was this slither of sadness that would creep up every now and then.’

He then admitted that he compensates for his sadness with overeating.

‘I don’t feel that it’s rocked my world that much, I just feel that I’ve put it into overweightness,’ he said. ‘That’s how I carry my feelings.’

Kyle then took a veiled swipe at his employer, the Australian Radio Network (ARN).

Talking about the Share My Mood app McMahon had helped build to assist people with depression, Kyle said: ‘There’s another way to solve it. When the company you work for starts fining you huge sums of money for not showing up, rather than asking “Are you okay?”‘

It was a reference to the huge sums Kyle has had to pay for taking so many sick days.

Back in February, Kyle estimated he had been fined ‘about a quarter of a million dollars’ by ARN for his time off.

Sarcastically stating the penalty system ‘really got me back on track,’ Kyle concluded: ‘You can either [get] Will’s new app Share My Mood, or work here at ARN and have a couple of days off and see how quick things turn [around].’
