Jamie Laing has branded himself a ‘posh and privileged w****r’ while admitting he is not proud of his cheating scandals during his time on Made In Chelsea.

The star, 32, who was known for his scandalous antics on the E4 show, confirmed he has calmed down in recent years as he applauded his girlfriend Sophie Habboo for being a stable force in his life and for helping manage his anxiety.

While promoting his new book I Can Explain, Jamie said to The Sun on Wednesday: ‘I was such a plonker in my younger years. If I saw myself back then, I’d say, “That guy’s an absolute w***er”.

‘So I understand it. Made In Chelsea fans liked me, I think — but when I did Strictly Come Dancing with a much bigger audience, I realised that being white, privileged and posh was not very sexy.’

The TV personality, who was born to millionaire parents, revealed his decision to quit the Sloane Rangers show in 2020 was because he felt ‘too old’.

Reflecting on his time during the reality series, Jamie confessed: ‘The version of myself that I became over ten years on TV is not a version I admire.’

Jamie secured an interview at a wealth management firm before the opportunity to audition for Made In Chelsea arose at the age of 22.

Filming commenced almost immediately and he made his debut on the new programme in 2011. Jamie swiftly became known for his lothario behaviour alongside co-stars including Spencer Matthews.

His romances with Frankie Gaff, Heloise Agostinelli, Nas Gharai, Louise Thompson and Binky Felstead were subsequently all documented on the series.

However, his struggle to remain monogamous begun long before he hit the small screen. He told the publication he first cheated on his ‘girlfriend’ at the age of six with Eliza Winwood, the daughter of singer Steve Winwood.

But according to the Candy Kittens mogul, he ‘heightened’ his adulterous escapades for more airtime.

For the 32-year-old, one of the biggest lows during his stint on MIC was the time he cheated on his then-girlfriend Tara Keeney.

He confirmed she only discovered his infidelity, much to her shock, when she watched the show two months later.

Jamie added: ‘That was a low. It was easier than telling her to her face. I just didn’t have the balls.’

Expecting his reputation would follow him, the star was surprised when nobody presumed he had succumbed to the ‘Strictly curse’ when he appeared on the 2020 series of the dancing competition.

The reality star confirmed no one ever questioned if he was hooking up with his pro dance partner Karen Hauer, 39, as he lauded her as a ‘goddess’ to The Sun.

Nevertheless, Jamie – who is related to the founder of McVitie’s digestive biscuit – asserted that he only has eyes for his partner Sophie, 27, whom he currently lives with in London.

During the interview, he gushed that his girlfriend is better than him in ‘every single way’ and a ‘real hero’ who has remained firmly by his side.

Jamie credited Sophie for bringing balance into his life and making him calmer then ever before, something he will be ‘forever grateful’ for.

The London based star is now an ambassador for mental health organisation Calm, as he hopes to encourage other men to speak openly about their feelings and worries.

According to Jamie, he is relieved his reality TV career begun before the proliferation of social media as he is not sure how he would have coped with the fame in today’s ‘current climate’.

He revealed he suffered from his first major panic attack after he begun the reality show, but has struggled with anxiety since childhood.

Jamie confirmed he developed a general anxiety disorder during filming due to feeling ‘burnt out’ and ‘insecure’.

He was scared to tell his family and friends how he was feeling before eventually confiding in his mother before seeking help.
