    The story of notorious Evangelical ringleaders Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker is coming to the big screen.  

    A first look at The Eyes Of Tammy Faye sees stars Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield transforming into the philandering couple who led the world of Televangelism until their ultimate demise. 

    The movie — which hits theatres on September 17 — will follow the rise and fall of the pair whose multimillion dollar PTL (praise the lord) Club programming ended in scandal.

    A first trailer for the film has been released by way of Searchlight pictures and sees Garfield, 37, and Chastain, 44, looking unrecognizable as they bring the story of the infamous couple to life. 

    The film is based on the 2000 documentary of the same name and will give audiences a glimpse at what is promised to be a more in-depth and sympathetic look at Tammy, namely. 

    The wife of Bakker — who ultimately battled colon cancer for over a decade before her 2007 death — has been immortalized as a cultural icon by way of her spider-like lashes and heavy makeup, and also enjoyed a brief stint in reality television.

    Tammy and Jim’s program — The Jim and Tammy Show (also known as PTL Club) was a Christian TV program that ran from 1974 to 1989. 

    It later became known as both PTL Today and Heritage Today and adopted more of a talk show style format in its later years. 

    Jim was also well known as the host of the 700 Club — a long running talk show which evolved from a religious talk program — that became one of the leading programs on the Christian Broadcast Network.

    In 1987 the program came to a screeching halt and ultimate cancellation after Jim was accused of both sexual and financial misconduct. 

    That same year Tammy was treated for a prescription drug addiction. 

    The Charlotte Observer, released an expose alleging that Bakker had sexually assaulted a young church secretary by the name of Jessica Hahn. 

    He was additionally later alleged to have a few same-sex relationships and amid the scandal another televangelist Jerry Falwell was tapped to run the ministry.

    According to her testimony the ministry had reportedly paid more than $200K in hush money in the hopes of keeping her quiet. 

    By way of the pair’s massive operations they had acquired numerous homes, a private jet and luxury vehicles. 

    And in 1988 Jim was indicted on eight counts of mail fraud, 15 counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy. Tammy on the other hand was not.

    In a trial that ensued years later, Jim was found guilty of all 24 counts. He was sentenced to 45 years in prison and ordered to pay a $500,000 fine.
