The city of Atlanta has officially declared July 22 to be ‘Kanye West Day.’
It was among two honors that capped off a busy Thursday for the rapper, 44, who hosted a grand listening party for his 10th studio album Donda at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
After the star-studded event, the Atlanta native got emotional backstage as he was presented with a plaque commemorating the day as his very own, as per TMZ.

The tributes came back after the rapper held a massive listening party for his upcoming studio album, Donda, which is named after his mother
West was also given a second award in honor of his late-mother Donda, which was presented to him by Dr. Kevin James, the President of Morris Brown College, which happens to be the HBCU where Donda taught at for nearly two decades and was Chair of the English Department.
Kanye was visibly moved when he received the heartfelt honors in front of his family and friends, especially the tribute to late-mother. West was extremely close to Donda leading up to her sudden death at 58 in November 2007.
It was determined she died of a hear attack and other post-operative factors that arose from an elective cosmetic surgery in November of that year.
That bond between mother and son was enough for him to name his latest studio after her, which he debuted to the world last night.

West premiered the batch of new songs in front of a huge crowd that included estranged wife Kim Kardashian and two of their four children, as well as Kim’s younger sister Khloe.
A moving track featuring the rapper’s late mom’s voice repeatedly saying, ‘No matter what you never abandon your family’ was enough to overcome West with more emotion as he remained on his knees with he head in is hands.
The KKW Beauty founder was seen standing close with their children North, eight, and Saint, five, while Chicago, three, and Psalm, two, were also in attendance.
In fact Kim was seen looking proud as she stood behind Ye while he was presented with the certificates.
In a potential show of solidarity, Kim showed off her famous curves in skintight red faux leather jumpsuit, while West donned a similar shade of red from head-to-toe for the event.

After arriving fashionably late to the event, the rapper proceeded to pace around the arena under a spotlight as each tune from the album blared from the PA.
Donda the album give a deeper look at West, gives glimpses of his now fractured marriage to Kardashian, and features collaborations with Jay-Z and Travis Scott.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashian star filed for divorce from the Jesus Is King star in February after about seven years of marriage, which was cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ on court docs.
The split was reportedly ‘amicable’ and the former couple are now focused on directing their attention to raining their children as co-parents.
Donda is scheduled to be released on August 6, 2021, through GOOD Music and Def Jam Recordings.
