Kate looked in high spirits as she arrived at the resort town accompanied by her husband and heir to the throne, Prince William. The Princess of Wales donned a beige ensemble, which included a long coat, a handbag and heels, while the Prince of Wales wore a blue jacket on top of a burgundy jumper and blue shirt. Both royals had pinned on their clothes a red Remembrance poppy ahead of the approaching Remembrance Day.
Kate and Prince William headed to Scarborough to meet the organisations set to benefit from a funding campaign launched by the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales and Two Ridings Community Foundation – an association tackling issues such as rural suicide, poverty and children’s wellbeing in the North and East Yorkshire.
The two foundations convened local donors to secure funding in support of community-led associations working with local young people to support their mental health and wellbeing, a cause very close to the royals’ hearts.
This visit to Scarborough also signals Kate and William’s desire to make a long-term impact on the places they visit and an intention to follow the progress made through their help to the most vulnerable.
Moreover, a source claimed to Sky News ahead of the royals’ arrival in Yorkshire that, while the pair are mindful of their privileged position, “they are not shying away from the issue” of the rising cost of living and are keen to “support the hard-pressed” in “parts of the country that need a light shone on them”.
After arriving in Scarborough, Kate and William headed to The Street, a community hub hosting local organisations to allow them to grow and develop their services.
There, the Prince and Princess met a panel of youngsters who support local mental health organisations.
This group will decide where to allocate the new funding which, during the engagement, it was announced amounted to £345,000.
This visit was key to learning more about how this funding will make a difference to young people in Scarborough.
Kate and William then met three local charitable groups beneficiaries of the funding to learn more about their work.
A tweet shared by Kensington Palace during the royal visit read: “So so pleased to announce £345,000 of funding from The Royal Foundation and @TwoRidingsCF, leaving a lasting legacy of support for young people’s mental health here in Scarborough.

The day in Scarborough highlighted the Waleses’ long-term commitment to supporting young people’s mental health.
During their engagements today, the Prince and Princess also highlighted the cost of living crisis gripping Britain.
Kate and William have been outspoken advocates of breaking down the stigma surrounding mental health conversations for several years now.

Similarly, in 2019 Prince William launched HeadsUp in partnership with the Premier League, in a bid to make men more comfortable when it comes to opening up on their mental health problems.
In that same year, Kate and William and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex launched SHOUT, a free 24/7 text messaging service for people experiencing a crisis.
During the pandemic, the Prince and Princess of Wales also worked to support the mental health of key workers strained by the Covid crisis.
In April 2020, William declared it was his and Kate’s “top priority” to support NHS and key staff and backed the launch of the platform Our Frontline.
