    Katie Homes looked ready for winter as she braved the autumn chill by layering up while shopping in New York on Monday.

    The actress and director, 42, looked snug in a green quilted jacket and loose fitting black jeans. She went make up free and finished the winter look off with a bright orange woolly hat. 

    The actress who first found fame on the hit TV series Dawson’s Creek, appeared to observe the city’s COVID had a pink mask which she had pulled down to her chin.

    The star spent the afternoon shopping as she took a break from filming her latest movie Rare Objects.

    The multi talented star is currently serving as actress, director, writer and producer on the project. 

    The film is an adaptation of Kathleen Tessaro’s 2016 novel of the same name. Katie co-wrote her silver screen take on the 2016 novel with Phaedon Papadopoulos.

    ‘Rare Objects has been in the making for four or five years,’ Holmes told InStyle in 2020.

    ‘It’s about the journey of this girl who has had quite a bit of hardship and tragedy. It hits on things that are very relevant – immigration, female issues.’

    Variety revealed on November 9 that American Rust breakout star Julia Mayorga, 27, would be starring as the main character Maeve in the on-screen adaptation of the historical fiction novel. 

    Rare Objects — which is set in the Great Depression — tells the story of a young woman Maeve who tries to rebuild her life in an antique shop, after a stint in a mental asylum. 

    While working in the shop she runs into Diana — a socialite she had first met in the asylum — and gets drawn into a new world while trying to transcend her traumatic past.

    The Sopranos alum Saundra Santiago also feature in the film.

    On October 28 Santiago took to Instagram to share: ‘And that’s a camera wrap for me on “Rare Objects” starring the gorgeous Julia Mayorga, Katie Holmes, Moi, & other wonderful actors!

    In the post she included an image of herself with Mayorga and Holmes.

    Earlier this month the producer made a rare appearance on Instagram to show her 2.3 million followers some behind the scenes photos.

    Also also seen on set was Scottish actor Alan Cumming.

    The actor, 56, who can currently seen on the new channel four travel show Miriam and Alan Lost In Scotland, appeared in costume as a somewhat bookish character.

    He wore a beige cardigan over a blue shirt with red tie paired with tartan trousers.

    He had on a pair of round black-framed spectacles and carried a cup of coffee and his script pages as he headed from the trailers to the filming location.
