‘I knew that I wanted children before I met the right person’: Katie Piper reveals she would have had kids on her own if she had never met husband Richard Sutton

She shares daughters Belle, seven, and Penelope, three, with husband Richard Sutton.

However Katie Piper spoke candidly on the Loose Women panel on Monday revealing if he hadn’t met her husband at the right time, she would have considered other options to become a mother.

In a debate over whether contraceptions should come with a ‘fertility warning’, the TV presenter, 38, said: ‘I was at a point in my life where I knew that I wanted children before I met the right person.’

Elaborating on her point Katie said that the idea feels a bit ‘backwards’ as it suggests that women merely only engage in sexual activity to get pregnant and give birth.

She made the point that some women have sex as part of their job, however most  women have sex for pleasure and not just to get pregnant, therefore a fertility warning on contraception seems condescending.

Katie said: ‘Firstly, this makes the assumption that women only have sex to have babies, which obviously isn’t true.

‘Women have sex for pleasure and some women have sex for their job – they are sex workers – and lots of women who are having casual sex with the desire to start a family but haven’t met the right person.

‘This can only highlight to them what is actually a painful thing to them in their life.’

Using her own motherhood journey as an example Katie – who met Richard in 2013- admitted that she knew she wanted children before she met him.

And the beauty revealed if they had not met when they did she would have had children by herself.

‘It took me a long time to meet my husband. But had I not of met him, I still would have proceeded ahead and had children in some kind of way.

‘I didn’t need a condom to tell me that my time is running out. If you have that intention, you don’t forget it.’

It comes after Katie wowed on the red carpet of the National Television Awards at London’s O2 Arena last week.

She looked stunning in a baby pink, off-the-shoulder gown which featured silver embellishments and a daring split that allowed her to flash plenty of leg.

Katie oozed elegance in the floaty number as she smiled for the cameras at the star-studded event.
