Kim Kardashian reportedly has no plans to ditch West from her surname following her divorce from rapper Kanye West.

The mum-of-four, 40, is set to keep her former husband’s last name for the sake of her children, as she thinks it’s ‘important’ to have the same moniker as her children.

According to TMZ, sources have revealed that Kim will keep Kardashian West as her surname and she fully supports Kanye’s decision to legally change his name to Ye.

Former couple Kim and Kanye are parents to four children; daughters North, eight, and Chicago, three, and sons Saint, five, and two-year-old Psalm.

All of their children share the surname West, with Kim choosing to keep her married name following her split from Kanye instead of returning to just her maiden name Kardashian.

By doing so, Kim will still have the same surname as her children – something she is keen to do in order to maintain a ‘strong family unit’.

Kanye, meanwhile, is hoping to ditch his name entirely as he has filed to legally change his name to Ye.

A lawyer for the artist filed a petition to change Kanye’s name from his birth name Kanye Omari West to Ye, according to The Blast.

It’s reported Kanye cited ‘personal reasons’ as the reasons behind his decision to change his name in legal documents. No other details were provided.

Fans will recognise Ye as the nickname Kanye has used professionally for years. He named his eighth studio name Ye and also goes by the abbreviated title on Twitter.

The filing was made in Los Angeles, according to TMZ, with the publication claiming Kanye’s request will now need to be approved by a judge considering the rules surrounding name changes in the state of California.

Judges ordinarily approve name changes so long as no evidence exists that the new name will be used to commit fraud.

It’s not the first time Kanye has requested to be referred to as Ye. In 2018, the Gold Digger hit-maker tweeted: ‘The being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE.’

The same year, Kanye revealed his inspiration behind naming his eighth studio album Ye. He said during a radio appearance: ‘I believe “ye” is the most commonly used word in the Bible, and in the Bible it means “you,” So I’m you, I’m us, it’s us.

‘It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye – just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confused, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are.’

According to reports, Kim is fully supportive of the name change and believes that fans and people will still recognise Kanye if the name change is successfully approved.

Kanye’s decision to do so comes just days ahead of the release of his new album Donda. It’s set to hit shelves on Friday 27 August.

The release will be Kanye’s first since splitting from wife Kim – news the pair were divorcing was confirmed in February, earlier this year.

After nearly seven years of marriage and months of split speculation, Kim filed for divorce from Kanye citing ‘irreconcilable differences’.

Sources at the time revealed the split was ‘amicable’ and that Kanye and Kim are planning on sharing ‘joint legal and physical custody’ of their four children.

The pair have stayed on good terms following the end of their marriage, with Kim seen attending listening parties for Kanye’s new album and having lunch with ex out in Malibu.
