‘I wanted to encapsulate all emotions that come with Christmas’: Leona Lewis reveals heartbreak inspired her new festive single
Leona Lewis, 36, reflected on her past heartbreaks as she appeared on Tuesday’s episode of This Morning.
Detailing the release of her new single, Kiss Me It’s Christmas, the 36-year-old singer confessed that the inspiration behind the track was a break-up she suffered during the festive period.
The X Factor winner looked stunning in a glitzy deep purple festive roll neck and wide-leg trousers as she joined Phillip Schofield, 59, and Josie Gibson, 36, on the couch for a chat.

Leona – who married choreographer Dennis Jauch in 2019 – said that a reference to the Bee Gees’ song If I Can’t Have You in her new hit symbolized the specific experience.
Leona said: ‘That song really symbolizes a very specific breakup that I went through around Christmas time years ago and it reminded me of that kind of feeling.
‘Christmas means a lot to different people – some people are so happy and joyful. I always love reconnecting with my family at Christmas time, but for some people there’s break ups, there’s people you’ve lost.’
On her inspiration for the music, the singer said that album is heavily influenced by Motown, reflective if the Christmas music that she grew up listening to.

The album takes on a nostalgic feel as it combines these factors with the festive track listing and two new hits.
Her latest romantic track from the record stars American singer, Ne-Yo, 42, and was released earlier this month with an accompanying video.
The Bleeding Love singer added: ‘I wanted to encapsulate all kinds of emotions that come with Christmas. As well as the joy and the uplifting elements, I also wanted that heartfelt song on there as well.’

The songstress explained that the song was recorded over a year ago as the artists were forced to record separately due to the pandemic restrictions.
Luckily the duo got the chance to film the video together as they both could be seen lounging by the fire in a beautifully decorated festive living room.
Leona and Ne-Yo put on a very romantic display as they dance by the Christmas tree and share a silhouetted kiss in front of a fairy light backdrop.

It will feature Leona’s upcoming festive album Christmas With Love Always – a special re-versioned edition of her 2013 hit record – Christmas With Love.
The re-release of her fourth studio album will include another new tune If I Can’t Have You, alongside her previous Platinum hit One More Sleep, on the twelve song track list.
