LG TV owners finally get an upgrade Samsung fans have enjoyed for months

LG is finally following Samsung with the launch of TikTok on its tellies. Those with a Samsung set in their living rooms have been enjoying this upgrade for almost a year and it seems LG is now ready to bring the social media platform to its big screens

The Korean technology firm says that it is launching TikTok on its range of 2020 (webOS 5.0) and 2021 (webOS 6.0) TVs.

The app comes as part of a firmware update that began arriving in living rooms over the weekend.

That means anyone hooked on watching the latest videos from their favourite content creators on TikTok – or a random jumble of videos selected by the algorithm, they’ll now be able to tune-in from the comfort of their sofa

If you own an older telly then don’t panic as LG is promising that customers with 2019 technology in the homes will get the upgrade in the coming months.

Explaining more about the update, LG said: “Whether you’re a sports fanatic, a pet enthusiast, or just looking for a laugh, there’s something for everyone on TikTok. All you have to do is watch, engage with what you like, skip what you don’t, and you’ll find an endless stream of short videos that feel personalised just for you. All from the comfort of your couch.”

If this news has got you thinking about upgrading your telly then there’s lots of choice about to arrive in stores.

Sharp has a brand new EQ range of pin-sharp goggleboxes and they’ll cost half the price of similar sets from Samsung.

For just £649 you’ll get a 50-inch 4K Quantum Dot display that’s compatible with the latest HDR10 and Dolby Vision content. Both of these screen technologies are aimed at making things look more punchy with brighter colours, richer blacks and improved contrast appearing on the display.

Of course, Sharp isn’t the only firm about to launch a new telly.

Sky has just taken the wraps off its new Sky Glass device which not only includes a screen but also everything to watch the firm’s channels.

This all-in-one system doesn’t even need a dish on the wall with everything beamed to it via the internet. There’s even a soundbar tucked under the display and you can watch telly in other rooms via something called the Sky Stream Puck.

Sky says that Sky Glass will be available from October 18 with prices starting from just £13 per month.
