Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk signs long-term contract to commit prime years to club

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has signed a new long-term contract with the club to commit his prime years to Jurgen Klopp’s side. Van Dijk has only recently returned from a lengthy knee injury and has now committed the next four years to the club by signing a contract until 2025.

Liverpool’s vice-captain missed the majority of the 2020-21 Premier League campaign with a serious knee injury suffered during October’s Merseyside derby.

Van Dijk was the victim of a rash Jordan Pickford challenge which ruptured the Dutchman’s ACL.

Asked how he felt about renewing his deal, Van Dijk told the club’s official website: “Amazing. It is something to be very proud of, that I am very proud of, that my wife and my kids are very proud of and obviously my agency.

“All the hard work we’ve put in so far continues and I am looking forward to what the future brings together with Liverpool. I’m delighted, very happy and proud.”
