London and Glasgow set for chaos just hours after Million Mask clashes in capital

In Glasgow, there will be a march under the banner of the ‘Global Day of Action for Climate Justice’. Estimates predict between 50,000-100,000 will descend on the city. As the COP26 summit continues, police have been forced to close roads between 5am to 6pm on Saturday.

The march will begin at 12pm in Kelvingrove Park before marching to Glasgow Green at 3pm.

A protest will also be held in conjunction with the group in London on Saturday.

The group will begin outside the Bank of England before moving to Trafalgar Square.

Separate protests will also take place in Nottingham, Chichester, Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol, Oxford, Newcastle, Leeds, Truro, Swansea, Sheffield, Birmingham and Plymouth.

If the numbers are correct, it will be the largest seen since the anti-war protests in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

This comes after the Million Mask March descended on the capital on Friday night.

The protests amassed around the centre of London, which saw the police issue a section 35 dispersal order.

During the protest, members of the group also set off fireworks and threw flares at police officers during the incident in central London.

Footage on social media also showed members of the group holding signs protesting against coronavirus restrictions.

During the clashes with officers, the Metropolitan Police said eight people had been injured.

They added: “A total of 12 arrests were made while policing tonight’s demonstrations across London.

“Those arrests were for a variety of offences.

“Eight of our officers were injured.

    “This is unacceptable.

“The policing operation will continue into the evening.”
