London weather warning: Intense lightning storms smash capital – Met Office alert

    “Whilst not all places will see heavy rainfall, some locations are likely to receive 20-30 mm in an hour and 40-50 mm in 2-3 hours this evening.

    The areas affected are Shropshire, Staffordshire, Telford and Wrekin, Warwickshire, West Midlands Conurbation and Worcestershire.

    Videos on social media have shown intense flash floods across Dagenham following reports of a tornado earlier this evening.

    Barking and Dagenham police said they were called at around 7.20pm BST to “reports of damage caused to roofs, electrical equipment, street furniture and vehicles”.

    They added it was “a weather-related incident, during which there was a lightning strike”.
