Machine Gun Kelly has reportedly asked for his security to be ‘ramped up’ after Conor McGregor appeared to throw a punch at him at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

The MMA fighter, 33, branded Kelly, 31, a ‘little vanilla boy rapper’ after they were squared up on the red carpet with their respective partners – Megan Fox and Dee Devlin – by their sides just before the start of the show.

According to Metro.co.uk, Kelly, whose real name is Colson Baker, did not want to meet Conor because he isn’t a fan of some of his previous comments, which weren’t specified.

A source said: ‘Machine Gun Kelly isn’t a fan of some things Conor has said and done in the past so thought it was a bad look to be photographed with him.

‘It’s the VMAs so part of the reason you go is to mix with other celebs but some of Conor’s comments on sensitive issues have never sat right with him.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives of Machine Gun Kelly for comment.

Kelly’s movie star girlfriend Megan Fox was among the people who stepped in between the two would-be fighters, and then wrapped her arms around him as the couple were led off past the growing crowd that had gathered.

Conor later brushed off the scuffle, telling a reporter nothing happened because he only spars with ‘real fighters’, and only knows who the musician is because he is dating Fox.

He told Entertainment Tonight: ‘Absolutely nothing happened. I don’t know. He showed up, and I don’t know. I don’t know the guy.

‘Nothing happened with me, I only fight real fighters, people that actually fight, you know what I mean? I certainly don’t fight little vanilla boy rappers. I don’t even know the guy. I don’t know anything about him, except that he’s with Megan Fox.’

Conor’s rep also said he does not know who Kelly is and insisted that his client wasn’t the one to start the scuffle.

It was first reported that the fighter asked MGK for a photo, but the Bloody Valentine star shot him down, according to TMZ.

However Conor’s spokesperson later told MailOnline: ‘Conor McGregor did not ask anyone for a picture, nor did he instigate this incident. He does not know Machine Gun Kelly, outside of the fact that he attended Conor’s fight this past July.’

Reports have suggested that words were exchanged and the situation escalated to the point where Kelly pushed Conor, who then stumbled back and spilled his drink.

The Irish fighter is currently walking with a cane as he recovers from a broken tibia bone that he suffered in his last bout with Dustin Poirier on July 10 at UFC 264.

After collecting himself for a brief moment, Conor threw what was left of his drink at Kelly, which was also in Megan’s vicinity.

Dressed in a pink blazer and black pants, Conor could be seen shouting and lunging at MGK, who was decked out on a glittery red suit, in photos and videos shot at the scene.

It appears that neither Kelly or Conor ever landed a punch on the other during the row.

After MKG and Megan were led past the crowd, and things settled down a bit, Conor was given his walking cane back.

This wasn’t the first time Conor has grabbed headlines outside the ring.

In 2017 he received a ticking off from an Irish judge after failing to pay a €400 speeding fine.

The MMA star reportedly laughed when the judge offered the option to pay in installments.

He revealed he wanted to appear in court in person to ‘show respect’ following the offence.

A video of Conor and his crew attacking a bus carrying his rirval Khabib Nurmagomedov previously went viral after the footage was leaked.

Conor was charged and pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.

A Brooklyn court ordered that he had to perform five days of community service and attend anger management.

Meanwhile, Conor was arrested in March 2019 for smashing the phone of a fan who tried to take a selfie with him.

Although the charges were dropped, there was later a civil suit against McGregor which was settled out of court.

Conor also punched a pub punter after he declined his offer of a free drink. The attack was caught on the pub’s CCTV and the MMA star received a €1,000 fine.

He avoided jail time after pleading guilty, expressing remorse and compensating the victim.
