    Gibraltar, as a British Overseas Territory, lists English as its official language, with many residents also fluently speaking Spanish or Llanito, a hybrid language of Spanish, English and other Mediterranean languages.

    English is the language typically taught in schools in the territory, and the one used for Government administration.

    A Cervantes Institute, according to Garcia Montero, would ensure the teaching of the Spanish language, particularly among Gibraltarian schoolchildren.
