'Magnificent Seven' to the rescue! Senior royals to 'do Queen's duties until SPRING'

Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Countess Sophie Wessex have all agreed to be on hand to help out “for as long as is needed”. Speaking to the Mirror, a source close to the royals claimed courtiers are taking a “cautious approach” to the sovereign’s diary, with no public engagements expected to be planned for the rest of the year.

They added that there should be a “realistic expectation” that the Queen’s diary will be dramatically reduced throughout the winter months.

Apparently, this “joined-up approach” by the Seven will take on “extra significance” in the Queen’s absence leading up to her Platinum Jubilee next year.

Speaking to the Mirror, one royal source said: “The Queen remains as sharp as a pin, but the reality is she needs to take a period of rest following an extremely busy start to normal duties after the coronavirus restrictions were lifted.

“The senior members of the family are all aligned in that they will be available to help out wherever they can and for as long as is needed.”

Meanwhile, another source said: “The Queen has been and continues to be hugely comforted by many of her family rallying round this year and will no doubt be looking forward to being together for Christmas this year.”

This comes as Buckingham Palace seeks to quash fears of the Queen’s poor health after she was forced to cancel yet another engagement last weekend.

The 95-year-old monarch cancelled her attendance at the Remembrance Sunday service at the Cenotaph after she sprained her back.

In the leadup to the event, palace officials had reassured the public that the Queen would be attending, saying: “The Queen will attend the annual Remembrance Day Service at the Cenotaph on Sunday 14th November.

In the month before, the Queen also cancelled her attendance at COP26 and a visit to Northern Ireland, after spending a night in the hospital – her first overnight stay in eight years.

Senior royals were out in full force at COP26, where they represented the royal family in the Queen’s absence.

Both Prince Charles and Prince William gave speeches at the summit, meanwhile, Kate and Camilla played visible supporting roles at the conference.

However, palace officials have reassured the public that, while her duties will be scaled back, the Queen has “no intention of stepping back” from royal duties altogether.

Following her back injury, a palace spokesperson said that the Queen is undertaking “light duties” at Windsor Castle.

She is set to begin carrying out virtual audiences in a few days time.
