The Reds skipper revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad have held a series of no-holds-barred meetings this week following the bruising 5-0 humiliation.

But he insisted there was still belief in the squad that they can blow away the negativity starting with the visit to Tottenham this weekend.

“It’s been a tough week and obviously you can’t just brush these things aside, especially when you lose to your rivals. To lose in the manner that we did was so disappointing,” he said.

“We’ve obviously had big discussions, we’ve analysed the game and the goals and looked at how we can do better and improve.

Varane’s return should shore up the defence which has conceded 11 goals in three games in his absence but Maguire insisted it was important fingers of blame were not pointed within the dressing room.

And he called on United’s travelling support to get behind them in London tomorrow evening.

“We know as a group of players we need to make sure we’re together and we’re positive,” he said. “It’s a tough one to move on from but we need to move on.

“That’s the most important thing now, we need to come together as a group and a club. We know our fans will be there at Tottenham in their numbers and I’m sure they’ll be getting behind us.”
