Man Utd could turn to Chelsea, Barcelona or Juventus if Dortmund transfer talks break down

Manchester United consider Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho to be their top transfer target of the summer, and the Old Trafford club are hopeful of getting their man.

Reports this week suggest that Sancho’s camp are also keen on the move, although a deal is unlikely to be struck until after the player’s spell in the England squad at Euro 2020.

United’s long-running pursuit of Sancho failed to bear fruit in either of the last two transfer windows, but Dortmund are believed to have dropped their asking price due to Sancho’s contract reaching its final two years, giving hope that a deal can be struck.

However, Man Utd feel they have alternative options in the transfer market as they look for a further attacking option for their squad, so are apparently unwilling to spend more than £70million on the 21-year-old.

If the Sancho signing fails to materialise than United can turn their attentions to three alternative targets.

Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele is one year from the end of his contract at the Nou Camp and has yet to agree to new terms, despite the club being keen to extend his stay.

Dembele excelled for Dortmund in 2016/17 before his big-money move to Barcelona, but has failed to live up to his £135m price-tag, scoring 18 league goals in 81 La Liga appearances for the club.

And, if he fails to sign a new deal, will be allowed to leave Barcelona this summer for a significantly lower fee than by which he arrived.

But United are also thought to be open to re-signing club legend Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, and could turn to him over Dembele.

And Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi is reportedly on the market after struggling for regular playing time since the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge.

Bayern Munich are also interested in the 20-year-old, but his positional flexibility would also make him of interest to United if their other transfer attempts fall through.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also open to bringing in another centre-forward, despite Uruguay veteran Edinson Cavani agreeing to a further year’s deal.

But Sancho is his main target, and in Dembele, Ronaldo and Hudson-Odoi, he has some top-quality Plan Bs should he fail to sign the Dortmund winger.
