Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace, which premiered on US channel Lifetime yesterday, dramatises Megxit. But some royal fans hit out at the film after the latest promotional pictures showed the actors playing Harry and his older brother Prince William arguing over racism claims.

Commenting on Facebook, one said: “These so-called TV ‘entertainments’ are doing so much more harm when many really do believe that it is factual rather than fiction.”

Another Twitter user posted: “Omg, just read William is portrayed as the bad one in the new film escaping the Palace it sounds bad.”

A third wrote: “That doesn’t surprise me in the slightest, The only positive thing about this is that even more people will get behind the lovely Prince William and gorgeous Catherine.”

Another tweeted: “What is really scary is that there are people who are going to take Meghan & Harry Escaping the Palace as fact.

“That movie is about as accurate as the Oprah interview.”

A fifth added of the film: “Tacky and crass.”

However, the movie has divided opinion as others rushed to praise it.

One Twitter user said: “Watching escaping the palace. Good for Harry and Megan. I love Megan and Harry.”

Harry tells his older brother he needs to address racism, saying: “You need to bloody well make a statement with me decrying racism.

“As future King, you need to push on this horrific bullying.”

In the movie, William also says of claims of racist comments made about Archie: “For the last time I agree diversity in the family is a good thing.”

The film previously sparked controversy when promotional pictures showed a dream sequence where Meghan was in a car crash like Princess Diana.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit royal duties in March 2020 for a new life in America.

They are now living in California with their two children Archie and Lili.

The couple made a series of bombshell claims about the Royal Family in their Oprah Winfrey interview in March.
