Meghan Markle and Prince Harry need 'image makeover' as Americans to see more of couple

Royal author Dylan Howard said Americans are likely to see more of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are living in California after quitting royal duties, as life returns to normal following the pandemic. But Mr Howard, who penned Royals at War, claimed that if he was advising the couple he would “demand a re-set and an image makeover”.

The royal commentator highlighted reports of the Sussexes’ use of private jets despite speaking out on climate change.

Mr Howard told Express.co.uk: “As life resumes to some level of normality in the Covid-19 pandemic, we can expect to see – and hear – more from the Sussexes.

“They’ve stated that. They’ve signed deals for that.”

However the royal author added that Harry and Meghan’s “zealous advocacy on certain issues is unlikely to be welcomed with a lot of credibility”.

Mr Howard said: “You cannot campaign for environment issues or vaccine equity with a straight face when you’ve reportedly taken at least 21 private jets since the start of 2019.

“If I were in the position of advising and building Harry and Meghan into an advocacy force to combat some of the greatest issues of our lifetime, I would demand a re-set and an image makeover.”

The Sussexes announced bombshell plans to step back as senior members of the Royal Family in January 2020.

The couple is now living in Montecito after quitting as working royals in March last year.

Speaking in the Big Apple, Meghan said it was “wonderful” to be back.

The Sussexes’ New York tour ended with the pair taking to the stage at the Global Citizen Live event to call for vaccine equity.

Earlier this week, the couple stepped out in New York once again for a gala honouring veterans.

Meghan dazzled in red as she joined former soldier Harry for the 2021 Salute to Freedom gala on Wednesday evening.

During the event, Harry joked that he was living the “American Dream” after a recent ride in a car shaped like a hot dog.

And the Duchess said she is “always proud” of her husband in a sweet comment to reporters.
