Meghan Markle has come under criticism for her role as Executive Producer of the newly-announced Netlfix series ‘Pearl’ due to her lack of experience. According to a royal expert, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had so far “done nothing” for their multi-million-dollar deal with the streaming giant, until Meghan’s role in the animated series was revealed on Wednesday.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford said: “Harry and Meghan have been on this million dollar a week deal that they get to put in the bank account, and they’ve done nothing.

“They seem to be turning up in all sorts of other places except Netflix.

“Now we have the grand news that Meghan is developing a project.

“That’s the word they’ve used, ‘developing’ a project, so it sounds like it’s some time off yet.”

Mr Ford added: “Also she’s been brought in to co-executive produce on this series – Meghan has no experience in executive producing an animated series!”

Meghan announced her upcoming project through her production company Archewell, which she co-founded with her husband Prince Harry.

The animated series ‘Pearl’ will follow a young 12-year-old girl on a series of adventures interacting with famous, influential women of history.

In a statement, Meghan said: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.

Prince Harry announced the docuseries ‘Heart of Invictus’ in April as his first project with Netflix.

The multi-episode series will follow the competitors, organisers, and Prince Harry in the lead-up to the Invictus Games 2022, a paralympic-style tournament that was founded by the Duke for veterans.

The series reportedly has not started filming and will not be available for streaming until late 2022 or early 2023.

Meanwhile, the couple have worked on other projects, including a children’s book for Meghan and Prince Harry co-produced Apple TV+ series ‘The Me You Can’t See’ with Oprah Winfrey.
