The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning over heavy rain, likely to cause some disruption and flooding on Friday in Northern Ireland. The heavy rain is expected to affect the Highlands & Eilean Siar (Na h-Eileanan Siar and Highland) as well as Strathclyde (Argyll and Bute and North Ayrshire).

Moreover, it will affect the following counties in Northern Ireland: County Antrim, County Armagh, County Down, County Fermanagh, County Londonderry, County Tyrone.

The Met Office said a band of heavy rain is likely to arrive across western Scotland and Northern Ireland early on Friday morning and move slowly eastwards, clearing eastwards by late morning to early afternoon.

Within this, narrow bands of heavy rain are likely to develop and where these become temporarily slow-moving, it is estimated that 20-30 mm, perhaps 40 mm of rain could fall within two to three hours.

The latest Met Office weather forecast shows clouds and outbreaks of rain, some heavy, moving north today, but likely becoming brighter with some sunny spells developing through the afternoon in the south, while windy in the far north at first and very mild, especially in the southeast.

Tonight, heavy rain could fall at times, with coastal gales developing across the far southwest and moving north overnight, although northern Scotland and eastern England will remain dry and very mild.

Heavy rain is predicted for Friday, accompanied by strong winds clearing northeast with sunny spells following. A few showers could develop across Northern Ireland in the afternoon as the weather turns mild.

From Saturday to Monday the weather could stay unsettled and very mild, with heavier rain and strong winds more likely towards the west and some drier, brighter interludes, especially in the east.
