Michelle Obama will guest star on the final season of ABC's Black-ish

    Production is under way on the eighth and final season of ABC’s Black-ish, with the show unveiling a very special guest star, former First Lady Michelle Obama.

    The official Black-ish Twitter and Instagram pages shared a snap with the 57-year-old Obama with the cast, including Anthony Anderson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne, Yara Shahidi, Marcus Scribner, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Jennifer Lewis and Katlyn Nichol.

    Obama herself also took to her Instagram story to reveal how excited she was for everyone to see the episode.

    The photo featured the cast surrounding Obama, with most in formal wear, including Fishburne, wearing a full tuxedo.

    The stars all had their face shields on upside down, still covering their faces as they got close for the photo.

    ‘#blackish is going all out for the final season! We are honored to have trailblazer @michelleobama join us as an upcoming guest star,’ read the official Black-ish Instagram post.

    Obama herself also shared the photo on her Instagram story, stating, ‘I’ve long been a fan of @blackishabc‘s wit and all-around brilliance, and it was such a thrill to join in for an episode. I can’t wait for you all to see it!’

    Tracee Ellis Ross also added the photo with the caption, ‘Oh it’s going to be an amazing final season.’

    ABC announced in May that it was renewing Black-ish for its eighth and final season, with creator Kenya Barris posting a heartfelt message on Instagram.

    ‘To all the people in the world I love, honor, respect and care for it is both exciting and bittersweet to share that Black-ish been renewed by ABC for it’s eighth… and final season,’ Barris began.

    ‘In this day and age it is rare to get to decide when your show should come to an end, and we are grateful along with ABC to be able to make this final season exactly what we’d hoped for – and to do it with the entire and amazingly stellar cast coming back to close this chapter out with us the right way!’ he concluded.

    The show, which debuted in 2014, has already spawned two successful spin-offs, Freeform’s Grown-ish, heading into its fourth season, following Yara Shahidi’s Zoey and her collegiate adventures.

    The other spin-off, Mixed-Ish, a prequel following Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross) and her mixed parent upbringing, lasted two seasons before it was canceled in May.
