Millions of Britons face eye-watering £4,700 bill to make homes more energy efficient

David Smith, a partner at JMW Solicitors, was quoted by The Telegraph saying: “The approach taken by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in their proposal is difficult to understand as it fails to take into consideration the reality of properties in the UK.

“There are some new build properties which do not meet the new requirement of a band C EPC and older properties which will never be able to meet it, regardless of the owners’ best efforts and intentions.”

According to the Government’s consultation documents, landlords who fail to meet the new standard could face staggering fines of up to £30,000 per property.

The warning comes after estate agent Savills warned about the cost of decarbonising homes across the UK.
