Millions of Sky TV customers are getting another blockbuster upgrade for free

It’s been a monumental week for Sky with the TV firm already revealing some big dramatic changes that include Sky One being replaced by something called Sky Showcase and a new channel launching named Sky Max which will feature hours of entertainment, dramas and comedy. These changes will be coming later this year with Sky promising that the new channels will become “the new home of blockbuster entertainment.”

And Sky Max and Sky Showcase are not the only updates that are launching soon. US firm Comcast, which actually owns Sky, has just announced that it will be bringing its Peacock streaming service to 20 million UK customers.

This platform, which launched in the US last year, features a host of top-notch content including The Office, Rutherford Falls, Saved by the Bell, Equalizer, Young Rock, Kardashians, Suits, Downton Abbey, and more.

Despite this being a premium offering, Comcast says there won’t be any extra fees to pay for those wanting to watch via their Sky Q box and there’s also good news for users of NOW (formerly NOW TV) as Peacock will also be available on that streaming platform as well.

Along with its current catalogue, Comcast is promising that Peacock will continue to enhance its shows drawing on the best Peacock Originals as well as NBCUniversal’s iconic library of series and movies.

“Comcast’s Xfinity has been integral to the success of our go-to-market strategy with Peacock in the U.S., and we see a similar opportunity to expand internationally with Sky,” said Jeff Shell, Chief Executive Officer, NBCUniversal.

“We are excited to bring Peacock to millions of Sky customers and add incredible value to their platforms with a premium catalog of the best entertainment from across NBCUniversal that is included with their subscription.”

The agreement with Sky marks Peacock’s first international expansion since its U.S. launch last summer. Over the past year, 54 million customers have signed-up for Peacock in the U.S.

Dana Strong, Group Chief Executive Officer of Sky, added, “Peacock will be a great addition for Sky customers with over 7,000 hours of content at no additional cost. This exceptional value add is another example of the great ways we are innovating to bring more benefits to our customers from the synergies across Sky, NBCUniversal, and Comcast Cable.”
