‘I’ll never, ever take this amazing piece of Australia for granted. It’s part of me, of my history,’ she wrote.

‘I’ve never missed the hot, dry heat, pristine beaches and wide open spaces of Western Australia like I have since COVID hit. In particular, I miss heading ‘down south,” she added.

Natalie who has lived in Sydney with her sons Lachlan, 19, Hunter, 16, and husband Andrew Thompson for more than two decades, went on to reflect on how difficult it’s been not to visit her mum.

‘Last Christmas the airfares were booked, the bags were packed, and our cat in Sydney was taken care of… and then COVID struck again. Along with many others, our Christmas was ruined – and there’s been no ‘down south’ since,’ she continued.

She also reflected on the precious memories she has to her home town, as they remind her of the special family BBQs she shared with her late father.

The stunning TV star’s confession comes after being on the cover of this month’s Australian Women’s Weekly alongside her two sons.

In a wide-ranging chat, Natalie opened up about her life away from breakfast television and revealed why her family always ‘comes first’.

‘I may have this amazing career, but Andrew and the boys come first,’ she said, referring to her husband, film editor Andrew.

Natalie added that working in breakfast TV allows her to juggle motherhood and her career because she can be a ‘full-time mum for the rest of the day’ once her shift ends.

‘I could be with them and watch them grow up every day. In that way, it was magical,’ the former newsreader-turned-anchor said.
