Newcastle are reportedly looking to include a termination clause in the contract of their next manager and that potential threat is understood to be scaring some candidates off. The Magpies are now set to continue their gruelling search for their new boss following Unai Emery’s decision to stick with Villarreal.
Intense speculation emerged on Tuesday morning that the Spaniard was willing to move to Tyneside and could even be at the Amex Stadium on Saturday for the Premier League clash with Brighton.
Emery, however, is understood to have been surprised by some of the details being reported in the British press, many of which were simply not true.
While he was open-minded about the Newcastle job after an opening round of talks, he was yet to make any formal decision on his future.
He then addressed the Spanish media after Villarreal’s 2-0 Champions League triumph over Young Boys, confirming that he’d received interest from Newcastle.

The Mirror are now reporting that Newcastle will look to include a breakaway clause in any deal though, meaning they can part company with any manager at the end of this season if they are relegated.
It’s understood their insistence on that clause has scared several contenders off, as many are only interested in the long-term project.
Newcastle’s board were said to be so sure they’d landed former Arsenal man Emery, they’d cancelled all their remaining interviews with other candidates.
They were optimistic Emery was ready to jump ship too with just the small matter of a £6million compensation fee to resolve.

But the dramatic swing of the pendulum has heaped further misery on Newcastle’s underwhelming search for a new boss.
Emery said in a statement: “No matter how much noise there was yesterday in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty with the Roig family and with my squad, and for me it is the most important thing. Villarreal is my home and I am 100 per cent committed.
“That is why I communicated to Fernando Roig my decision to want to continue being part of this project because of the commitment and respect that I perceive from the club and from my players, which is mutual and reciprocal.”
