Police and firefighters wearing Hazmat advisor uniforms are assisting the bomb disposal teams at the estate in Peverell, Plymouth. Residents have witnessed “unsettling” scenes of commotion as the investigation intensified.

One told Plymouth Live: “Two Hazmat fire officers, an ambulance man [paramedic], a police officer in a cap and a man and lady with clipboards across Forest Avenue and Beauchamp Crescent. It’s unsettling.”

Another local said she’s been told “there will be lots of comings and goings today” as more officers arrive throughout the day.

Photos taken at the scene and shared online show multiple emergency vehicles parked at a busy junction.

Worried residents are seen outside homes as officers survey the area.

A resident said: “One [officer] is an interagency liaison officer.”

Ministry of Defence has been contacted for further information.

Police are pictures present but the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary has been asked for clarity on the investigation.

Peverell is a close-knit neighbourhood near Plymouth city centre.

It is home to several large parks and recreational areas, including Mutley Park and Central Park.

It’s believed around 14,000 live in the area, most of which are thought to be families. This figure rose sharply in the past five years or so, it is said, as the area is largely seen as safe and pleasant.
