Prince Harry 'spoiling for a fight' as Duke's 'aggressive' comments branded 'unnecessary'

Prince Harry, 36, released an unprecedented statement at the beginning of his relationship with Meghan Markle in 2016 where he attacked the British press for introducing “racial overtones”. Discussing Harry’s comments to the press in the Channel 5 documentary Harry and Meghan: 3 Troubled Years, royal expert Richard Kay said the Duke of Sussex appeared “aggressively confrontational”.

Narrator Jennifer Saayeng said: “Prince Harry has always shown mistrust for the media but this was one fight that was always going to have an unhappy ending.

Mr Kay added: “The palace thought it was unnecessarily antagonistic and as if somehow Harry was spoiling for a fight.

“He went about it in an aggressively confrontational kind of way.”

The Duke and Duchess Sussex stepped down from the Royal Family just four years after following negative press.

The royal couple have since announced a wide range of projects including a children’s book, a docuseries with Oprah Winfry and deals with Spotify and Netflix since stepping down as senior members of the Royal Family.

But royal expert Katie Nicholl told the documentary that the couple’s latest project will “not end well for them” if they continue to “trash the establishment”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have faced criticism in recent months for their comments on other royal members.

Ms Nicholl said: “I think it’s safe to say that if they are seen to be cashing in on royal connections, continue to trash the establishment, it’s not going to end very well for them.”

Royal expert Russell Myers added: “I don’t think we’re going to see Meghan here anytime soon.

“She is heavily pregnant. It would be extraordinary if she came back for the Diana statue unveiling and then one may wonder when we will see her again. They’ve set up a very cosy life out there.

“Maybe it will be Christmas and even then, will they be welcomed back?

“There’s an awful lot that needs to be discussed and all the leaks from their camp is causing quite a bit of stress over the other side.

“Whilst this keeps happening and they’re not talking, I can’t see any cooling of relations to make everything better.”
