Prince Harry wanted to advise William as King and 'tell him he is wrong'

Princes William and Harry stood shoulder-to-shoulder at the unveiling of Princess Diana’s statue earlier this month. While the two tried to put a united front to honour their mother’s 60th birthday, the brothers did not seem to engage too much with one another. The meeting came after Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, unleashed a string of explosive claims against the Royal Family – including that the Duchess had faced racism and was not supported when she struggled with her mental health.

Meghan also claimed that Kate made her cry at a bridesmaid fitting before her big wedding.

According to a Palace source, the Duchess of Cambridge did not get het up over the Oprah Winfrey interview fallout – and is instead trying to act as a pacemaker between the brothers.

Royal expert Camilla Tominey claimed Kate is playing a pivotal role behind the scenes and is trying to bring the family back together.

Harry used to be incredibly close to both his brother and sister-in-law.

The trio would often appear together at events and the Royal Foundation, which Harry and Meghan left, had huge successes with projects like the Invictus Games for injured veterans and the Heads Together campaign.

In a 2010 interview, Harry even recognised his key role was to be by his brother’s side, suggesting he would have given him advice even after becoming king.

He told ITV: “I will always give him as much support as I can.

“Sometimes it’s probably not valued, which is understandable as the older brother always thinks they know best.

In a candid interview with royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell in 2016, William admitted his role as the future King is “not at the top of my priority list” and that he only considers what he will do with the monarchy “in a quiet moment”.

And in a heartbreaking nod to the love he has for his father and grandmother, he revealed that the implications of his ascension are not lost on him.

He added: “I certainly don’t lie awake at night waiting or hoping for it because it sadly means my family has moved on and I don’t want that.”

However, despite his clear reservations, he did go on to shed light on the importance he sees in his own royal role as the monarchy looks to survive in years to come.

William explained: “I think the Royal Family has to modernise and develop as it goes along and it has to stay relevant.

“That’s the challenge for me – how do I make the Royal Family relevant in the next 20 years time?

“It could be 40 years time or 60 years time.”
