Charles Spencer shared his joy at his new novel, The White Ship: Conquest, Anarchy and the Wrecking of Henry I’s Dream, hitting number one in the Amazon bestseller list this week. He tweeted a picture of Amazon’s bestseller list, before adding: “Goodness! Thank you to everyone who’s made this happen. #thewhiteship.” Fans were quick to share his joy on social media.
One wrote on Twitter: “Well deserved. Congratulations. It’s a fabulous book. #thewhiteship.”
Another said: “Well deserved. It’s an excellent book on a subject that’s much overlooked.”
The novel tells the story of the White Ship, which sank in 1120.
This killed William the Conquerer’s grandson as he returned from a battle in France.
It also left the King without a legitimate heir to the throne, which then ultimately led to a civil war.
Charles’ jubilations come after he reunited with nephews Prince Harry and Prince William on Thursday.
They gathered for the statue unveiling of Diana on what would have been her 60th birthday, at the Sunken Garden in Kensington Palace.
It was the first time Diana’s sons had been seen in public together since Prince Philip’s funeral in April.

They also said the statue would recognise their mother’s “positive impact in the UK”.
Harry and William said at the time: “It has been 20 years since our mother’s death and the time is right to recognise her positive impact in the UK and around the world with a permanent statue.”
Charles’ two older sisters Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale also attended the statue unveiling.
They have remained close to William and Harry since their mother’s tragic death in a car crash 1997.
They all also attended Harry’s son Archie’s christening in 2019.
Last month, Charles spoke about the name of Prince Harry and Meghan’s newborn daughter, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Windsor.
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine, hesaid: “When I look at all these newspapers going berserk again and I’ve always found it so hard, I think it’s because I’m not very imaginative, but I always see things in terms of family.
“And I remember when I was a boy and Diana became Princess of Wales, I just sort of ploughed along on the same path.
“You separate the media personality from the real person who’s a member of your family, and that’s all that matters at the end of the day.”
