Queen delighted after receiving six-week-old corgi from Prince Andrew

The Queen was given two new dogs by Prince Andrew back in February to keep her company while Prince Philip was recovering from heart surgery. However, she was “devastated” when her five-month-old Dorgi puppy, Fergus, died of a heart problem earlier this year.

Now, the Duke of York and his daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have bought her another six-week-old puppy for her birthday.

The currently unnamed puppy was gifted to her on what would have been Prince Philip’s 100th birthday.

A Windsor Castle source said: “The Queen has had a rough time and she is absolutely delighted to have a new corgi.

“She was distraught when Fergus died suddenly, but this new dog will be perfect company for Muick going forward.”

Fergus was also bought by Prince Andrew along with another corgi, Muick, to keep his mother company while the Duke of Edinburgh was recovering from heart surgery.

The sad death of five-month-old Fergus came less than two months after the Queen said goodbye to her “strength and stay” Prince Philip.

At the time, a source told The Sun: “The Queen is absolutely devastated.

“The puppies were brought in to cheer her up during a very difficult period.

“She had said that she wasn’t going to get any more corgis.

“But it’s been a bit of a testing time.”

Back in 2015, it was reported the Queen had stopped breeding corgis because she did not want to leave any behind after she died.

During her reign, the Queen has owned more than 30 dogs of the breed and her last remaining one, Willow, died in 2018 after suffering from cancer.

This marked the first time the monarch had not owned a corgi since the end of World War 2.

It is also believed Fergus and Muick were the first the Queen has had which were not descended from a corgi called Susan that she received for her 18th birthday in 1944.

An insider previously said she was “delighted” with her two new puppies as she spent lockdown at Windsor Castle.

They said last month: “It’s unthinkable that the Queen wouldn’t have any corgis.

“It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens.

“They have only been there a couple of weeks but are said to be adorable and made the castle their home.

“Both are said to be bringing in a lot of noise and energy into the castle while Philip is in hospital.”
