Queen pictured for first time in two months after first Balmoral summer without Philip

    The Queen has been joined on the Balmoral estate by Prince Charles and has planted with him a tree to kick-off the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative – the first one marking the approaching Platinum Jubilee. While the Prince of Wales, known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, and the sovereign were pouring soil into the pit o f the copper beech sapling, Charles cracked a joke.  

    He quipped: “Let’s hope it will survive.”
