There has been a lack of cover on the right side of defence, but Ferdinand doesn’t think Trippier is the answer.

The 42-year-old doesn’t want to see his former club move for Trippier in the market and instead focus the money elsewhere.

“I don’t think they’d buy someone to come in and play [every week], I think whoever’s coming in there is going to be playing backup,” Ferdinand told the Metro.

“They spent £50m on Wan-Bissaka, not to be a backup or No 2.
