Rob Lowe shares throwback photo of 1980s double date with Tom Cruise

Rob Lowe took to Instagram to share a quintessentially Eighties photo. 

The actor, 57, shared a picture from 1982 while out on a double date with his The Outsiders co-stars Tom Cruise and Michelle Meyrink, and Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert. 

‘Double date 1980s style! I think this might’ve been the premiere of “The World According to Garp.” #TBT,’ Lowe captioned the photo.

The Parks And Recreation star wore a white suit with his collar flipped up, pink button-down shirt and a white tie. His Mission: Impossible friend wore a navy blazer, blue button-down and a matching tie.

Getty Images records state that this photo was taken at the premiere of In the Custody of Strangers, not The World According to Garp. In the Custody of Strangers is a television movie starring Martin Sheen and his son Emilio Estévez, who also appeared in the Outsiders with Cruise and Lowe. 

Gilbert and Lowe were something of an ‘it’ couple during the 1980s. They even went as far as getting engaged before the Bad Influence actor broke things off after finding out his fiancée was pregnant.

The actor later married makeup artist Sheryl Berkoff in 1991, whom he is still with. Gilbert is now with her third husband, actor Timothy Busfield, whom she married in 2013.

Cruise romanced Rebecca De Mornay, was married to Mimi Rogers (1986 until 1990), was wed to Nicole Kidman (1990 until 2001), dated Penelope Cruz (2001 until 2004), was married to Katie Holmes (from 2005 until 2012) and is now dating Hayley Atwell.

The Tommy Boy actor’s brother, Chad Lowe, joked with his big brother about when the picture was taken writing in the comments, ‘You sure this wasn’t your prom?’ 

While he’s reminiscing about the old days, The Brat Pack member hasn’t stopped focusing on his present career.

The actor is working on Dog Gone, a film centered around a father and son who repair their relationship while searching for their lost dog on the Appalachian trail. He also hosts his own podcast, Literally.

Cruise has stayed even busier in his career than his old friend. 

The Jerry Maguire actor has a number of films coming up including Maverick, a Top Gun sequel coming out next year, Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 both of which are currently filming. 

The 59-year-old hasn’t slowed down one bit either, recently parachuting out of a helicopter four times during the filming of Mission: Impossible 7.
