Ryan Giggs was seen for the first time on Monday since a court heard he allegedly kicked his former girlfriend in the back before throwing her out of a five-star hotel bedroom naked.

The former Manchester United footballer, 47, was taking a trip to M&S in Hale Village, Cheshire, with his younger girlfriend Zara Charles, 33.

The pair both dressed in casual ensembles for the sunny outing, a month on from the sporting star being accused of head-butting Kate Greville and controlling and coercive behaviour against her lasting more than three years.

Zara showed off her toned figure in a pair of grey cropped leggings which she teamed with a black vest top and wore sunglasses on her head.

Meanwhile Ryan opted for navy shorts and a white T-shirt while carrying his supermarket bags.

The pair looked relaxed in each other’s company for the trip out which came two months after a romantic summer trip to Spain together.

At the end of July, a court heard that Ryan allegedly kicked his former girlfriend in the back before throwing her out of a five-star hotel bedroom naked after she accused him of flirting with other women.

Giggs is also accused of head-butting Kate and controlling and coercive behaviour against her lasting more than three years.

He allegedly assaulted his former lover, 36, and caused her actual bodily harm at his home in, Worsley, Greater Manchester, on November 1 last year.

Giggs is also charged with common assault by beating against Ms Grenville’s sister Emma Greville during the same incident at his home.

Manchester Crown Court heard the alleged controlling or coercive behaviour took place between August 2017 and November 2020 the details of which were set out by prosecutor Tim Evans.

Charges: At the end of July, a court heard that Ryan allegedly kicked his former girlfriend in the back before throwing her out of a five-star hotel bedroom naked after she accused him of flirting with other women

He told the court: ‘The particulars of the charge between August 31, 2017, and November 2, 2020 at a time when you were personally connected to Kate Greville, engaged in behaviour towards her that was controlling or coercive which had a serious effect on Kate Greville namely that it caused her serious alarm or distress which had a substantial effect on Kate Greville’s day-to-day activities. At a time when you knew, or would have known, that that behaviour, would have a serious effect on her.

‘The particulars of the offence are: messaging her and or blocking her when she was on nights out with others, or she asked about your relationship with others; threatening to send e-mails to her friends and her employers about your sexual relationship and behaviour; throwing her belongings out of your house when she questioned you about relationships with other women.’

‘At the Stafford Hotel in London, kicking her in the back, and then throwing her out of the hotel bedroom naked followed by throwing her bag at her when she accused you of flirting with other women; sending constant unwanted messages and making constant unwanted calls to her and her friends when she tried to break-off your relationship; after she had tried to break-off the relationship, regularly turning up unannounced and uninvited at her home, workplace and gym.’

Giggs, who denies all three charges, spoke only to confirm his name and enter not guilty pleas from the dock during the 33-minute hearing.

Lisa Roberts QC, defending, said: ‘These are serous allegations each of which is challenged.’

The court also heard that there’s an ongoing civil case involving ownership of the couple’s dog.

At an earlier hearing at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, prosecutor Andrea Griffiths said the assault charge against Kate Greville was an alleged domestic assault involving a ‘deliberate headbutt’ aggravated by the fact Giigs was ‘in drink’.

Giggs was charged with offences in April and he issued a statement at the time, saying: ‘I have full respect for the due process of law and understand the seriousness of the allegations. I will plead not guilty in court and look forward to clearing my name.’

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) later announced it had noted the decision of The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to charged Giggs and caretaker boss Robert Page would manage the country at this summer’s European Championship finals.

Giggs was bailed and is due to appear at a pre-trial hearing on October 8.

His conditions of bail are that he must not contact Kate or Emma Greville or go to any address where they are.

He’s due to stand trial on January 24, 2022.
