    Ryan Reynolds lauded his wife Blake Lively in the wake of a strong opening for his latest movie, the action comedy Free Guy.

    ‘Free Guy wouldn’t be the movie it is without @blakelively,’ he said on Instagram Stories, accompanied by a shot of the couple embracing.

    The A-list actor, 44, said Lively, 33, ‘was essential in every part of the making of this film, creatively and emotionally, and the cameo everyone is talking about was entirely her idea,’ adding the hashtag, #WorkWife.

    The Deadpool star took to social media after his new motion picture took in $28.4 million in its opening weekend, according to the AP.

    The leading man, who plays a video game character in the film, said Lively was instrumental in the cameo from Chris Evans in a sequence in which Reynolds’ character used a Captain America shield. 

    Reynolds, who shares three daughters with wife Lively – James, six, Inez, four, and daughter Betty, one – spoke with Entertainment Tonight at the film’s August 3 debut in New York City.

    Asked about the 10th anniversary of his first date with Lively, Reynolds said, ‘That’s amazing … in Hollywood years, that’s like 145 years or so!’

    The pair commemorated the anniversary with a trip back to the Boston sushi eatery where they took their first date, O Ya.

    Reynolds, who is set to celebrate his ninth anniversary with Lively next month, told the outlet of his relationship with his spouse, ‘Well, we like each other, which is a good foundation of any relationship.’

    The 20th Century Fox film, which is directed by Shawn Levy, opened across 4,165 theaters in North America, but not on any streaming platforms to date. It surpassed financial expectations amid a time of tempered box office crowds with the delta variant of COVID-19 causing infection rates to spike.
