Salma Hayek revealed that her Eternals co-star Angelina Jolie was reluctant to push her head into her birthday cake as part of Mexican tradition.

The 55-year-old actress shared her birthday cake story on Thursday while promoting the upcoming Marvel movie with her co-star Kumail Nanjiani, 43, on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Jimmy, 53, noted that Salma last month had a ‘little birthday party’ and asked how many people attended.

‘Okay, there was no birthday party. All of those people were crashers,’ Salma clarified.

She explained that she told people that she didn’t want a birthday party and had to work that day.

‘Everybody felt sorry for my loneliness so they just showed up at my house. You know? Before I knew it, 25 people. I mean, I had to say, bring some booze! Thank god there was a cake,’ Salma said.

Salma reminded Jimmy of the Mexican tradition known as ‘mordida’ and then got the studio audience to start a ‘mordida’ chant.

‘This is the power of Salma Hayek, she can get them to chant something that they don’t know what it is,’ quipped Kumail.

Salma explained that ‘mordida’ means bite and tradition calls for biting the birthday cake hands-free after blowing out the candles.

‘And then there’s always one that hits you and sticks your face inside the cake,’ Salma said.

‘This time Angelina came,’ said Salma, referencing her Oscar-winning co-star in Eternals.

‘We were starting mordita. She’s like, ”What’s happening? What’s happening?”. A bunch of Mexicans,’ Salma said.

She added: ‘We told her that I was going to bite and the tradition was and she said, ‘No. No. Oh, no. I cannot do that. I cannot’. She got over it, the no,’ Salma said drawing laughter from the audience.

Jimmy then showed a clip of Salma at her birthday party next to Angelina, 46, as a ‘mordida’ chant grew.

Angelina put her hand behind Salma’s head and helped her get a face full of birthday cake before erupting in laughter.

‘That was a very gentle push. I feel like you put your own head in the cake,’ Jimmy joked before asking Kumail if he was at the impromptu birthday party.

‘No, I guess I was not one of the 25 people. I mordida’d at home. I mordida’d myself to sleep at home,’ Kumail cracked.

Salma and Kumail earlier played a game of Name That Famous Celebrity featuring ‘celebrity pesterer’ Yehya who described celebrities who they had to guess while blindfolded.

‘Question. What are you talking about?,’ Kumail asked after the first round.

Not invited: 'No, I guess I was not one of the 25 people. I mordida'd at home. I mordida'd myself to sleep at home,' Kumail cracked

Jimmy afterward congratulated them on their strong chemistry during the game.

‘You know, I have a parrot called Yehya. And he doesn’t speak much, but I understand him better than this Yehya,’ Salma revealed.

Eternals is scheduled to premiere next week in Los Angeles and will be released in the United States on November 5.

‘Can I say this movie is really, really, really good. It is so, so good. It’s a really good movie,’ Kumail said at the end of their joint interview.
