Britney Spears is set to wed long-term boyfriend Sam Asghari, with the couple confirming their engagement on Instagram on Sunday.
The fitness trainer, 27, known for his ripped physique, first met Britney on set of her music video for Slumber Party in 2016 and finally popped the question with a diamond ring after four years of dating the much-loved pop star.
However, prior to meeting Britney, Sam’s life was very different, with the former football player previously revealing he was working three jobs and weighed 100lbs heavier after living on junk food.
Unrecognisable in throwback photos, Sam decided to overhaul his lifestyle and set his sights on becoming a personal trainer – prompting him to undergo an incredibly body transformation in just six months that took him down to just three per cent body fat.
Sam first spoke of his weight loss journey in an issue of Men’s Health in 2018, where he revealed at his biggest he weighed 290lbs (around 20 stone) and struggled with depression.
From failed footballer to fitness fanatic: Sam Asghari underwent a huge body transformation prior to meeting fiancé Britney Spears, with the 27-year-old shedding SEVEN stone in six months and getting down to just three per cent body fat (pictured above aged 19 (L) and now (R)
Prior to finding fame, thanks to his relationship with wife-to-be Britney, Sam was living in Los Angeles in a two-bedroom apartment with two friends and working three jobs, after his hopes at playing college football were dashed when he was cut from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s summer football program.
Taking on multiple gigs, including a store clerk, a gym sales rep and a nightclub bouncer, Sam recalled living off four to five hours sleep per night and ‘stress-eating’ junk food.
He admitted that working out was ‘no longer a priority’, as he revealed in his 2018 interview: ‘I was eating Doritos for breakfast, fast food, sugar, candy, no protein, a lot of carbs, and drinking sugary sodas.
‘My nutrition was extremely horrible. The stress and the fear of not going anywhere [in life] combined gave me my depression.’

Making a change: 290lbs (around 20 stone) at his biggest, Sam decided to make a change and set his sights on becoming a personal trainer – overhauling his gym regime and diet in 2013, three years before meeting Britney (pictured at 19 (L) and now (R))
Disappointed at his footballing career not working out, Sam revealed at his heaviest he weighed 290lbs and came to the realisation one night in 2013 – three years before he met Britney – that he needed to change.
Sam set his sights on becoming a personal trainer and overhauled both his gym regime and diet, with the now fitness enthusiast shedding a huge seven stone in just six months.
He signed up for nutrition courses to learn about good nutrition and would work on his fitness knowledge by watching videos on YouTube.
Early morning workouts that would see him arrive at work two hours early, just so he could fit in a training session, started to have an impact, with Sam also cleaning up his diet.
He restricted himself to spending just $50 (£36) per week on his food shopping, which strictly consisted of meat and vegetables and helped him to control what he was eating.
Obsessive: Sam restricted himself to spending just $50 (£36) per week on his food shopping, which strictly consisted of meat and vegetables, but he previously admitted he developed an unhealthy relationship with counting calories
Getting down to just three per cent body fat, Sam admitted that he became ‘obsessed’ with calories and would end up burning more than double of his calorie intake.
He’d measure his body fat percentage everyday and would even pass out during his workouts due to not eating enough or drinking enough water.
Asghari says he measured his body fat percentage every day with a BMI device that he kept in a drawer at work, ate only 1,500 calories, and burned about 3,000 to 4,000 at the gym.
Making changes once again, Sam decided to embark on a healthier nutrition plan and balanced out his diet to maintain a body fat percentage of seven to nine per cent.
‘Mentally, you get so paranoid. You think, “No, if I eat this, I’m going to go back,” I wasn’t hydrated properly while exercising, and I was passing out,’ he confessed.
By 2015, Sam had completely transformed his image and embarked on a career as a model, with him later being cast in Fifth Harmony’s music video Work From Home as one of the buffed-up construction workers, thanks to his newly ripped physique turning heads.
Landing himself an agent, Sam then got a call up for Britney’s music video Slumber Party, where he first met the Oops I Did It Again hit-maker on set.
Educated: Sam enlisted himself on nutrition and personal training courses where he developed a new found love for fitness and he now maintains a healthier seven to nine per cent body fat

Romance quickly blossomed between the pair and Britney first went public with the pair’s relationship at the beginning of 2017.
Since then, the couple are often treating fans to PDA-filled posts on social media, with trainer Sam often putting Britney through her paces in the gym.
During lockdown, Britney shared footage of the pair working out together with her social media followers and gushed: ‘Grateful to have Sam to stay in shape with !!!!! Couples that workout together stay together.’
The pair are always keeping active together, playing tennis and doing yoga, and Sam credits Britney for being a ‘blessing’.
He said of his famous partner: ‘She motivates me more than anyone. It’s crazy how I can be humbled by a person like her… she is another blessing that happened to me.’
Sam is now set to wed Britney after proposing to the vocal talent with a four-carat diamond.
Happy news: Romance blossomed between the pair soon after meeting on set, with Britney going public with her romance with Sam in 2017 and the couple confirming their engagement in September 2021
His proposal came not long after news that her father Jamie Spears was moving to end her financial conservatorship – a ruling which Britney previously revealed stopped her from getting married or having children with Sam.
Jamie announced in August that he would be stepping down from his role as conservator, though he notably didn’t include any timeline for his departure.
He later he filed in court to end the conservatorship all together – a move that was celebrated by Britney fans.
Sam’s manager Brandon Cohen confirmed his engagement to Britney via a statement shortly after the lovebirds both posted on their Instagram accounts
‘The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them,’ Cohen said, adding that Spears’ new ring was designed by N.Y.C. jeweler Roman Malayev.
The bespoke design features a four-carat round brilliant stone in a platinum cathedral setting, and is enhanced with a floating solitaire design and has pavé detailing on the bridge.
Britney has been married twice previously. She first wed childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander in Las Vegas in 2004 but their marriage was annulled 55 hours later.
The star then tied the knot with second husband Kevin Federline, who she shares sons Sean Preston, 16, and Jayden James, 15, with, nine months later in September that same year. They split in 2006, with the pair’s divorce being finalised in 2007.
New beginnings: Their engagement came after Britney’s father Jamie Spears announced plans to step down as her conservator, with Jamie later filing to end the singer’s conservatorship completely
